News and MoreOur Mission Statement
The health sector accounts for almost 5% of global carbon emissions, and the provision of care to the critically ill is resource intensive. Environmental sustainability must be a core consideration of how we deliver care in our critical care units, not an afterthought. Embedding environmental governance within each critical care unit is paramount, in line with the NHS’ commitment to reach net zero by 2045. Follow the links at the bottom of this page to find out more
SPIN-CM will enable sustainable governance to become part of core practice across the Cheshire and Merseyside Critical Care Network, through:
- connecting healthcare professionals across our organisations who will champion sustainability within our practice
- supporting sustainability education & research, and
- sharing best practice, empowering change to cascade across our Network's organisations

Become a Green Champion
We want to identify colleagues from across all job roles working in our units, who are passionate about sustainability and improvement.
A Green Champion might be:
- a pharmacist who wants to reduce medicines and consumables wastage in critical care
- a nurse who wants to reduce clinical waste
- a housekeeper who wants to do something about the number of disposable cups we go through
- or anybody else who is concerned for the future of human and planetary health
